| UBERSEIN Hip & Elbow Results (See explanatory text below regarding elbow scores) 102 puppies X-Rayed from our first 30 litters (total puppies whelped from these litters = 237) Ubersein has one of the highest rates of screening of any kennel in Australia, generally about 50% of adult progeny. It is a condition of our puppy sale that all purchasers agree to have their dog Xrayed between 12-18 months of age if we request it. In this way we are able to properly evaluate the outcomes of our breedings and make more informed choices into the future, thus decreasing the chances of any dogs WE BREED being affected with hip or elbow problems. Unfortunately many breeders only XRay one or two dogs from their litters and thus are not making a significant contribution to the information pool. Many breeders will advertise that "temperment and soundness is paramount". If this really is a mantra and not just advertising then you should expect to see a decent proportion of the puppies they have bred appearing with official results and also a decent proportion of their direct breeding stock having been breed surveyed. |

| Elbow scoring was not a requirement to participate in the hip scheme until about 1996. Several schemes have been used, laterly elbows have been scored on the following basis: Grade 0 = no changes Grade 1 = changes measuring up to 2 millimetres Grade 2 = changes over 2mm and up to 5mm Grade 3 = changes over 5mm - it is recommended not to breed with these animals. A previous scoring scheme used the grade "B" which we understand was a grade Borderline between the current Grade 0 and Grade 1 I have included the measurements next to the grading where possible. At Ubersein, we aim to breed dogs with low, or ideally no, scores in elbows. We try to avoid using animals with measurements over 3mm and endeavour not to combine two breeding partners who both have a significant elbow score. Presently nearly 50% of our dogs scored have 0:0 elbow scores and another 30% have measurements of 2mm or less. |
